Plot summary
Anna Winter works at a Los Angeles public radio station and looks after her alcoholic father, Chuck, who makes constant demands on her. In a box of old love letters she learns that her mother, Maggie, had a long affair with a married man, and she takes the arrangement as something suitable for herself. Then she meets Oliver Andrews, a photographer who is married and a father. The attraction between them is immediate, and though Oliver says at the outset that he will not leave his family, Anna has no objection and enjoys the sex and the intimacy for the time being.

- The director's first choice for the lead was Meg Tilly, but Tilly's agent demanded more money than Corman would pay, so Jamie Lee Curtis took the part for only $25,000 despite several nude scenes, to break away from the horror films she had been making.
- The director got the idea from love letters she and her husband had written to each other years earlier while living on different coasts; she rediscovered them and wondered what would happen if their daughter came across them.
- Curtis said she 'had to fight to get' the role in Love Letters, because the filmmakers didn't think she could pull off a sweet young thing, believing her too worldly, sophisticated and tough.
