Plot summary
Thomasina Hanbury is a gifted inventor who lives with her sister Martha in a house in the English countryside, where the two grew up as orphans. Thomasina builds a machine she calls LOLA, named for their mother, which picks up radio and television signals sent from years ahead, and the sisters use it mostly to hear music from the future. When the war begins, they tune in to news bulletins describing German raids, then broadcast warnings of their own so civilians can reach shelter. Lieutenant Sebastian Holloway, a signals officer, sets out to find who is sending those messages. The warnings save lives, and the sisters draw the attention of the military.

- LOLA was shot in Ireland during lockdown. The sisters' house scenes were filmed on 16 mm Bolex and Arriflex cameras with period lenses, while newsreel scenes used a 1930s Newman Sinclair 35 mm wind-up camera on Kodak Double X film.
- Stefanie Martini, who plays Martha, was trained to operate the period cameras and personally shot the footage her character is meant to be filming.
