Plot summary
Nick Reve is directing a low-budget independent film in New York City. The catering crew, short of money and interest, has kept the craft service table without milk for a week. The scene on the day's schedule has Ellen telling her mother off for standing by while her father beat her as a child. Take after take goes wrong: the boom appears in the frame, the camera assistant loses focus, and a light blows. Cora, cast as the mother, forgets her lines, and Nicole, cast as Ellen, drifts. Cora then makes a gesture that brings back Nicole's memory of her own terminally ill mother, and Nicole acts with a force that startles Cora into matching her.
