Plot summary
The pact comes first: three freshmen, Annie, Marisa, and Kelly, agree to open their college acceptance letters side by side at the senior party. By senior year, Annie and Marisa remain best friends, while Kelly has become the school's most popular girl and no longer talks to either of them. Annie still intends to keep the promise and talks about it constantly. Marisa, weary of the subject, wants Annie to let the friendship with Kelly go. When Kelly tries to start a conversation with the two of them, the popular girls around her bully them and the moment falls apart. In class, the sight of Kelly laughing with those girls sends Annie fleeing to the bathroom.
