Plot summary
Danny Foster works at a diner and writes songs, hoping to make a career of it. At the diner he meets Ariana Scott, a young woman from a wealthy Connecticut family whose mother, Victoria, keeps a close watch on her. He gives her his number. Ariana, who goes by Sam, is deaf, and she waits a few weeks before telling him. He takes her to a movie, then to the diner, where he talks about the music he loves, and he begins to court her. Victoria learns that her daughter is seeing Danny and sets out to break them up.
