Plot summary
Jenny Graves leaves Detroit to start over and brings her sons, Green and Jay, to a small town in Alabama. Green loves horror movies, above all the makeup effects that give their monsters their faces. His mother becomes involved with Earl Knight. Returning a pile of horror tapes to the video store, Green meets Angevin Duvet, a smart Goth girl who shares his taste for the genre and is as out of place in the town as he is. Tightwiler, a local businessman, runs a haunted house every year. Green startles him with one of his creations and wins the job of building this year's. He plans to take Angevin to Hollywood on his share of the ticket money, but her deeply religious mother, part of the Holy Calling of the Southern Saints, stands in his way.
