Plot summary
Kirkby is a rough suburb of Liverpool, where Teresa and Elaine live. In Margaret Thatcher's Britain the city is depressed and short of work, and some of its people work in a chicken factory or a slaughterhouse. Teresa wants sex and a smile. Elaine wants love and romance, and a life far from the dockland grime. On a night out the friends meet Sergei and Peter, two Russian sailors.
