Plot summary
Emma and her little sister Lilly have moved in with relatives after being orphaned. Late one night Emma is woken by a prank: her cousin Taylor and Taylor's friends Madison, Jess and Paige have crept in, without her Uncle Vince knowing. Conversation turns to the house across the way, where a boy died from a stray bullet, and to Ms. Dürer, his mother, said to have dabbled in the occult and later died of a broken heart. The place stood empty until a single father moved in with his teenage daughter Julie, who has not been seen. The girls guess Julie is asleep and by herself and decide to wake her with a scare. Emma, wanting to fit in, says she can fetch the key her uncle keeps for the house.
