Plot summary
Cairo TV reporter Charlie Cannon and his pregnant wife Larissa are raising their children Katie and Sebastián when Katie is lured from their home by a woman known as the Magician and vanishes in a sandstorm. Charlie and Larissa report the kidnapping and work with Detective Dalia Zaki. Eight years later, the family is living in Albuquerque with their third child, Maud, and Larissa's mother, Carmen. In Aswan, a cargo plane carrying a sarcophagus crashes, and archaeologists find Katie wrapped in linen covered with ancient writing. She is returned home in a catatonic state and repeatedly harms herself. Charlie learns that the inscriptions describe the Nasmaranian, a demon kept bound through ritual mummification, and that as the wrappings are removed the demon grows stronger.

- Lee Cronin's ideas for The Mummy came out of his real-life grief over his mother, who died the same day he finished Evil Dead Rise (2023); making the film helped him process her death, and a phone call he had to make about keeping her false teeth for her wake inspired a scene.
- The film is unconnected to Universal's earlier Mummy films, and up until its release the official Blumhouse Twitter account repeatedly tweeted "Brendan Fraser is not in Lee Cronin's The Mummy" to make that clear.
- Lily Sullivan, who starred in Cronin's previous film Evil Dead Rise (2023), appears in The Mummy as a teacher after she personally asked to be in it.
- To work out the look of the mummy, Cronin's research ranged from North African visual references to the preserved "bog bodies" held at Dublin's National Museum.
