Plot summary
Darius is a playwright whose first success was followed by heavy drinking and a stay in a clinic, where he went to dry out rather than write. Once out, he learns his producer has gone ahead without him: a leading lady is hired, the theater reserved and a first night announced, while not one line of the new play exists. Darius hunts for ideas and finds none, and the deadline will not move. One day he accidentally kills a neighbor's cat, takes sedatives in his misery and dozes off at his computer. He wakes to find the opening of his play typed on the screen. From that, Darius decides his writing demands killing.
