Plot summary
Philippe Abrams runs the post office branch in Salon-de-Provence, in the south of France. He is married to Julie, and he does everything he can to get a job in Sanary-sur-Mer, on the Mediterranean coast, to make her happy. Because the position is thought to go more easily to a disabled applicant, he pretends to be disabled, and management finds him out. For two years he is sent to Bergues, near Dunkirk, in the north of France, where locals speak a dialect called Ch'ti. He leaves Julie and their son Raphaël behind in the south.
