Plot summary

In 1985, police find a family killed at their farm, with teenage Jane the only survivor; she is raised by a foster family and remembers nothing of it. Years later Jane sells her photographs of abandoned farmhouses and lives with memory lapses, which strain her marriage to Alan and her bond with their young daughter Alice. On one excursion she is drawn to an old farmhouse. After a car accident she wakes in a hospital and does not recognize Alan or Alice, and a doctor says the collision worsened a childhood head injury. A jack arrives as a gift, holding a 1985 photograph of that farmhouse, and property records show that Jane owns it and that her uncle Patrick has been looking after it.
