Plot summary
In a parallel present, Ray Tincelli delivers packages and supports his ailing younger brother. His small hustles and swindles do not bring in enough. He takes a job in a new corner of the gig economy: quantum cabling, which sends workers deep into the forest to pull cable across miles of ground and join the large metal cubes that connect a quantum trading market. Hostility toward the cablers grows, and robot cablers pose a threat. Ray must decide whether to help his fellow workers or take his money and leave.
