Plot summary
Lady Constance Chatterley is married to Sir Clifford Chatterley, a dashing aristocrat. He serves in the First World War and comes home severely wounded, unable to walk and impotent, and he grows more distant from his wife. Constance takes comfort in the company of Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper on the estate. In 1920s Britain, the upper class and the servants who attend them are separated by an unbreakable social divide, and such an affair would scandalize society and ostracize both of them. Constance must weigh propriety against love, while Mellors has his own safety to consider.
