Plot summary
Lady Bird is the name Christine McPherson has given herself in her final year at a Catholic high school in Sacramento, and she is set on a college on the East Coast, far from home. Money is the obstacle: her father Larry has just lost his job, her mother Marion works long shifts counseling patients at a psychiatric hospital, and her older brother Miguel and his girlfriend Shelly have moved back into the family's small house. Marion tells her daughter she is ungrateful and that her plans are unrealistic. Lady Bird and her best friend Julie Steffans join the school theater program, where she meets Danny O'Neill and starts dating him.
