Plot summary
Calisto, a young nobleman, falls in love with Melibea, whose father is a rich merchant. Calisto's servant Sempronio urges him to turn to Celestina, a sorceress, so that the romance may be furthered. Calisto's other servant, Pármeno, knows about the tricks Celestina practices and is wary of her. Celestina persuades Melibea of Calisto's love and sets up a short secret meeting between the two of them, after which Calisto gives her a costly chain of gold. Sempronio and Pármeno, unhappy with the women she supplies them, demand even more from her.
