Plot summary
Visitors to Nambabwe pay Kwagga Robertse for a staged lion hunt, and the trick has earned him the nickname Urumbo among the country's people. He also sells goods at his farm shop. His routine is disturbed when a United Nations force arrives with the Transition Assistance Group to oversee the peace and make sure the elections after the independence war are free and fair. The platoon is led by an American, Major Braddock D. Mackay, with Captain Zapman as his second-in-command. A valuable diamond is offered to the two men, and they would have to pay 200,000 US dollars for it, money that would go to Kwagga's rival brother Doon Robertse, who is competing with him for the farm their dead father left them.
