Leon Schuster
Biography
Leon Schuster is a South African comedian, actor, filmmaker and singer who was born in Vereeniging in 1951 and grew up in Bloemfontein. He began at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, where he devised the Afrikaans radio series Vrypostige Mikrofoon together with Fanus Rautenbach, disguising his voice to play phone pranks on unsuspecting people. Decibel Records came to him in 1982 to put together a collection of sports songs; the records that followed sold heavily, and Hier Kom Die Bokke won an FNB Sama Music Award as the biggest selling CD of 1995. His first feature, You Must Be Joking!, made with Johan Scholtz and Elmo de Witt, found an audience and led to You Must be Joking! Too. He became known for candid camera sketches and slapstick, and Mr Bones (2001) was his most successful film, taking in more than R33 million at South African cinemas. Mad Buddies (2012), which the Walt Disney Company helped finance, drew poor reviews.

Behind the award
Schuster's hit CD Hier Kom Die Bokke, which translates as Here Come The Boks, earned an FNB Sama Music Award for Biggest Selling CD of 1995.
