Plot summary
Balakrishnan runs a small barbershop in the village of Marayoor, where he lives with his wife Sridevi and their three children. Money is short, the school fees go unpaid, and a rival barber, Shanmugam, works from a bigger shop with employees and revolving chairs. A local goon, Kuppusamy, also keeps customers away. Balakrishnan says he and the actor Ashok Kumar were best friends thirty years ago, and Sridevi and the children ask to meet the star and take a photograph with him. Ashok Kumar arrives in Marayoor to shoot a film, and the village welcomes him while police are called in for his safety. Sridevi spreads word of the old friendship, and the villagers believe her husband can bring the actor to them. Balakrishnan doubts that his famous friend remembers him.
