Plot summary
Gopikrishnan Shivasankaran Pillai is pushed into the Indian Air Force by an uncle after he fails to finish his degree, and in Bombay he meets Sharadhamma, known as Sharadha, whose mother once worked as a maid for his family. He has news of his own suicide spread, marries her, and lives under the name Sudhakara Kurup. The two go to Persia; when the Iranian Revolution drives them home, his office clerk Sabu follows. In Alappuzha his co-brother Bhasi Pillai and his driver Ponnachan welcome them. Kurup has taken out a life insurance policy on himself, payable if his death is proved. A burnt Ambassador car and a charred body are found beside a paddy field, and the police team of DYSP Krishnadas finds gloves, a match and footsteps that point to murder rather than accident.
