Plot summary
In New Orleans, four layabouts dream big in a world of small change, passing their days over cards, coffee and women. Their banter runs through the streets of the city, and Ditch is their self-appointed king, irascible and carrying a Napoleon complex. The others like him for it. Then he pushes The Professor, who holds a tenure of his own making, further than the man will go. Threats, posturing and sexual ploys follow and send the men down a road that is dark and comic at once, and a childlike woman who is looking for a way out becomes a tug-of-war between them.
