Plot summary
A meteorite fell on an uninhabited island off the coast of Africa long ago and was buried by the land itself. Six construction workers are boated out to build an airstrip there for an oil drilling company. Their foreman is Lloyd Kelly, a recovering alcoholic on his last chance: another failure on this job would leave him with few prospects. Kelly and the bulldozer driver, Mack McCarthy, uncover the meteorite, which gives off a strange sound, and when the bulldozer is used to move it, a blue light passes into the machine. Mack falls ill, and mechanic Chub Foster finds nothing wrong with the stalled bulldozer, though the blade still gives off the sound. Kelly orders the men to leave the machine alone.
