Plot summary
London, 1997, and the British record business is on a winning streak: Britpop is at its peak, with Blur, Oasis, Supergrass and The Verve ruling the airwaves while Cool Britannia is in full swing. Steven Stelfox, twenty-seven, works as an A&R man in a trade where chance and the tastes of the public decide which careers are made and which are broken. Greed, ambition and large quantities of drugs keep him going while he hunts a new hit record. Derek Sommers is the managing director of the label. The hits are drying up and the industry is beginning to change, and Stelfox has a career to defend.
