Plot summary
Taylor Brooks is a thrill-seeking attorney and Harold Jameson a married scientist, but the two friends spend their weekends climbing together. On one ascent they meet Phillip Claiborne, a billionaire whose team is testing equipment for a Himalayan trip. Two of Claiborne's climbers ignore Harold's warning about an avalanche and die that night; Taylor and Harold get Claiborne and the other survivors down. At the interment, Taylor pleads for two places on Claiborne's K2 team, and Claiborne lets the pair fill the gap. The team travels to Pakistan's Karakoram range to begin the ascent, with Taylor clashing with Dallas and Harold feeling guilt over leaving Cindy and their son behind.
