Plot summary
A Catholic nun, Tadea Benz, is brutally murdered on Halloween night in 1981, and panic spreads through Amarillo, Texas. The police come under heavy pressure to solve the case quickly. A suspect emerges: eighteen-year-old Johnny Frank Garrett, who is arrested and tried for the killing. Evidence that could have cleared his name goes overlooked, and the jury convicts him and imposes a death sentence. Garrett insists he is innocent throughout. After he dies, a letter turns up in his cell, cursing everyone involved in his conviction and promising revenge. Within weeks, people linked to the case begin to die in unexplained ways.
