Plot summary
Once he settles in London, the guitarist Jimi Hendrix gathers the Jimi Hendrix Experience around him, and his career begins to take off. Kathy Etchingham is part of his life in the city during these months. The story stays in London in 1966 and 1967, in the period before he played the Monterey Pop Festival. Hendrix's own songs were not licensed for the production, so the music in the film comes from songs he performed in those years, shortly before his debut album, Are You Experienced.

- Experience Hendrix LLC, the estate of Jimi Hendrix, denied the filmmakers' request to use any songs written by Hendrix, so the film contains none of his compositions and instead uses songs he performed in London in 1966 and 1967.
- Kathy Etchingham, whose relationship with Hendrix the film dramatizes, was not consulted during production and on the film's release strongly criticized that portrayal, calling it "absolute nonsense".
- All musical parts were played by Waddy Wachtel on guitar, Leland Sklar on bass and Kenny Aronoff on drums, and Wachtel wrote short segments of music that sound similar to the Experience's early songs.
