Plot summary
Jesse Stone, police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts, is caught in a Boston shooting that leaves his friend Captain Healy seriously wounded, and the town council and Internal Affairs question the number of shootings he has been involved in. Jesse also refuses to keep the town's speed trap manned and dismisses the officer who wrote most of its tickets, costing Paradise revenue. Elizabeth Blue, a celebrated visitor, asks him to reopen the search for her baby son, who disappeared seven years earlier and was declared dead, and a letter postmarked Paradise told her the child is loved. Deputy Rose Gammon investigates the case as well.
