Plot summary
In a near-future France, the economy has collapsed and corporations have bought the national debt. Unemployment passes fifteen percent, encampments of homeless people spread, and doping and experimentation on humans are legal. Cage fights are broadcast to the nation, with athletes sponsored by pharmaceutical companies testing new drugs on them. Reda fought as Ares until an injury cost him his corporate sponsor; he now takes low-ranked cage matches, takes jobs for a corporate agent, Altman, and works riot security during protests. When his sister Carla is framed for possessing an illegal pistol, Altman tells him she will be charged as a terrorist, and that bribing officials will cost a hundred thousand euros. Reda agrees to test HSX, a drug that has killed every subject before him.
