Plot summary
Cliff Taylor leaves prison on parole, set on living an honest life, but his criminal record follows him and employers will not keep him. His younger brother Tim grows anxious and disillusioned: he cannot afford to marry Peggy, his girlfriend, and cannot see an honest future for himself. Afraid that Tim will drift into a life of crime as he did, Cliff decides to raise the money that would let his brother settle down. He tells the family he has found work as a salesman. In truth he has gone back to a fellow ex-convict, Chuck Martin, and Martin's gang.
