Plot summary
Sixteen-year-old Alex Taylor has been blind since he was two, and he wants two things: to fly and to run on his high school's cross-country team. His father, probation officer Geoff Taylor, trains with him but can no longer match his son's pace. Geoff needs someone at the school fast enough to run with Alex. That someone is Brad Coleman, a classmate from an aboriginal reserve in British Columbia who spends his time running from the law. After Brad is caught in a daytime robbery and faces jail as a repeat offender, Geoff makes a deal: Brad stays out of custody and in school, paired with Alex. The boys, different in most ways, get off to a rocky start, and the track coach, the teammates and Alex's overprotective mother all stand in their way.
