Plot summary
A rise in sunspot activity brings long-term consequences for the planet. Like the rest of the world, Los Angeles lies under a layer of ice and snow, and with no government left, chaos and crime are widespread. LAPD officer Robert Drake sets out with a small group of survivors. Among them is scientist Dr. Norman Kistler, who is certain that a new ice age has begun and that the cold will not pass for another decade. Their destination is Long Beach Harbor, where a government ship is to meet them and carry them to Guam, where it is warmer. The route through the frozen city is a dangerous one.
