Plot summary
Sam Cowell does stand-up in Toronto and earns money as a nanny. An agency places her with Brooke, a girl of twelve, and Brooke's father Cameron, whose wife is ill and staying in a hospital. Brooke wants nothing to do with a nanny at first, but the two become close, and Sam keeps drawing on her own life for jokes while Cameron fails to see the appeal of her comedy. Two years on, Sam is no longer on stage and is living with PTSD, and Brooke has gone missing. Sam weighs whether to join the search for the girl she once cared for, as recollections of their time together return.
