Plot summary

Del survives a sudden apocalyptic event that killed the population of his small town. He believes he is the last person alive. He sleeps in the library where he once worked and spends his days emptying houses and burying the dead. One night fireworks wake him. The next day he finds Grace unconscious in her car after a drunken crash. She follows him and asks to stay. He is unwelcoming at first, then offers her a trial period.
