Plot summary
Three amateur cricketers, Wallis, Blake and Peacock, are found murdered with items of cricket equipment. After Boyd is killed in a cubicle with a cricket bat, the police suspect a serial killer. The victims had all played for the same under-12 boys' team, which was caught up in a bullying scandal. The surviving team members are taken to a safe house at Joadja, where they are meant to stay under police protection. A tall man in cricketers' clothing, cream trousers, a jumper and a bucket hat, hunts them with sharpened stumps and a cricket ball fitted with nails.
