Plot summary
In London, Leyla is a shy British Indian Muslim woman who dates Ali and writes in secret, hiding her ambition from her tradition-loving parents, Maya and Sam. At work she meets Tala, a Christian Palestinian whose parents, Reema and Omar, are arranging her elaborate wedding in Jordan. The two women could hardly be more different, but Tala's questions about Leyla's beliefs push Leyla toward a new sense of herself, and a weekend in the countryside turns their friendship into something more. Both fall in love, and Tala's sense of duty and her family's expectations pull her back toward the wedding. She leaves for Jordan, where preparations are under way.
