Plot summary
Governor John Meserve faces protesters asking about a proposed pipeline while Vivian Hill finishes the independent study she is in charge of. She drives to the airport to collect her husband Stanley, back from a job interview in California. At their car, a flat tire delays them; one man demands money, another knocks Stanley down, and Vivian is stabbed. The police arrest a suspect and Stanley identifies him in a lineup, but detectives Gibson and Walker let the man go. After the funeral, Stanley throws a Bible across his home and reads the verse in Jeremiah 6:11 that gives him the name Wrath. He calls Dennis, a Special Forces friend who runs black operations beneath a barbershop, and asks for information.
