Did you know?!Facts and trivia about I Am Love (2009)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The soundtrack is made entirely of pre-existing John Adams pieces; Swinton said the film was built around the music, and that Adams, who had never allowed his music to be used before, said yes when they asked him after finishing the film.
- Much of I Am Love was shot in the Villa Necchi Campiglio, a 1930s Milan mansion designed by Piero Portaluppi; the film family's name Recchi echoes that of the Necchi family who owned it, and Tilda Swinton called it "part palace, part museum, and part prison."
- The Recchi family in I Am Love is largely based on the aristocratic Castellini Baldissera family, and Piero Castellini Baldissera appears in a cameo role multiple times throughout the film.
- I Am Love is the first installment in Luca Guadagnino's self-described Desire trilogy, preceding A Bigger Splash (2015) and Call Me by Your Name (2017).
- The film's title comes from a line in the aria La mamma morta from Umberto Giordano's opera Andrea Chénier, which is also explored in Philadelphia, a scene from which Tilda Swinton's character watches in bed with her husband.
