Plot summary
Insomnia has hollowed out the life of a touring musician: concerts, hotel rooms, a voice on a voicemail. Then a stranger appears, and the odyssey that follows begins to unpick the core of who he thinks he is.
Los Angeles, the road and the lights of an amusement park give this psychological thriller its surreal edge, and the film stays with one man's unravelling rather than any plot he can steer. Addiction, a break-up and the machinery of a tour are all part of the picture.
Trey Edward Shults directs and wrote the screenplay with Reza Fahim and The Weeknd. Abel Tesfaye takes the lead as The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega plays Anima and Barry Keoghan plays Lee, with Riley Keough heard as the girl on the voicemail. Live Nation Productions and Manic Phase produced the 105 minute film, which is rated R.
