Plot summary
Gary Hinge was an experienced hiker. In July 2017 he left Ruth, Nevada, for a cabin in the Great Basin Desert he had visited before. Two days after he was due back, his housemate Simon Rodgers contacted Gary's sister, Beverly Hinge, who called the authorities. State and local police, park rangers and volunteers searched the desert. Investigators found his truck at the end of a dirt track, 55 miles outside Ruth, and foot teams, helicopters and drones turned up no trace of him. Heat, his habit of carrying few supplies and the terrain made the chances of finding him alive slim. With the official search winding down, Beverly hired private investigator William "Bill" Salerno, and reporter Gal Roberts pushed to keep the case in the news. Three years on, friends and loved ones describe the days before he vanished.
