Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Screenwriter Jayson Rothwell based the film on the Covina Massacre: on Christmas Eve in 2008 a man wearing a Santa outfit opened fire at a Christmas party at his ex-wife's house and burned the house down, killing multiple people, including himself.
- Screenwriter Jayson Rothwell had not watched the original Silent Night, Deadly Night before writing the remake, so he was asked instead to write from his own ideas of what a Christmas-themed horror movie was.
