Plot summary
In 1989, José and Kitty Menendez are shot dead in their Beverly Hills home. Their sons, Lyle and Erik, initially react with grief and confusion, but the police investigation soon focuses on evidence that points to the brothers. Prosecutors contend that the brothers wanted the family fortune and killed to get it. Lyle and Erik tell a different story: they say they acted out of fear after years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. The two accounts shape the murder trial that follows.
