Plot summary
Ruth Barron goes to India, becomes a follower of a guru named Baba, and takes the name Nazni. Her parents in Sans Souci, a Sydney suburb, are appalled that she has no intention of returning, so her mother, Miriam, flies to Delhi and Ruth agrees to come home with her. In the Outback, the family stages a reunion with her father, Gilbert, who is supposedly recuperating there, and Ruth meets P.J. Waters, an American specialist who deprograms cult members. She is defiant at the intervention but agrees to accompany him to a remote cabin, on the condition that she can return to India afterward.
