Plot summary
In the orange-farming town of Caldwell, California, Judy Sears works at her father Bob's plant as one of the quickest orange packers in the country. Freddie Frisby works there too, and he loves her, but Bob and the company's owner, J. B. Caldwell, both favor Caldwell's nephew Ralph, the head salesman, as her husband. Judy prefers Freddie, and when Bob intercepts an apology note Freddie meant for her, Bob fires him. Then Sam Phillips, agent of Freddie's uncle, the magician Frederick the Great, brings word that the uncle has died and left Freddie his estate: almost no money, a truckload of possessions, a complete set of conjuring apparatus and a raven used in the act. Sam talks Freddie into taking on the magician's identity and finishing the shows owed under the contract.
