Plot summary
On Halloween, Eddie works as a police technician and hands out flyers about a couple killed the night before by a bare-chested man in a devil mask. He wears his father's police uniform as a Halloween costume. While giving out the flyers, he meets Jake at a tattoo shop. Eddie joins Chaz, Joey and Tobey, and the group heads for the West Hollywood Carnival.

- A contest begun in September 2003 to name the film drew mostly poor suggestions, among them Boy Meets Knife, Queer Eye for the Dead Guy and 28 Gays Later; the title Hellbent came from the final eight submissions on the contest's last day.
- Second-unit filming began in October 2001 with no script yet; Etheredge-Ouzts sent the crew to the 2001 West Hollywood Halloween Carnival to shoot anything cool, and of six hours of footage, less than two minutes reached the film.
- Etheredge-Ouzts cut the killer's lines from Hellbent entirely: he wanted viewers to invent the murderer's motive and background themselves, and feared that part of the audience would not find whichever voice was used frightening.
- Hellbent's main cast were all heterosexual and had no trouble with the gay roles; Dylan Fergus found kissing co-star Bryan Kirkwood hard late in the day because of Kirkwood's five o'clock shadow, and Matt Phillips fell several times in high-heeled footwear.
- Etheredge-Ouzts contacted Nick Name of the queercore band Nick Name and the Normals to write music; the former Abercrombie & Fitch model was then asked to play the serial killer himself, and through him Etheredge-Ouzts cast Texas Terri as the tattoo artist.
- Eddie was written as Latino, but Hellbent ended up with an all-white cast: few minority actors auditioned and none had the required skills, and Etheredge-Ouzts said 30 non-white actors booked to audition never showed up.
- Hellbent's success and popularity spawned a run of similarly themed motion pictures, creating a new genre of film called "queer horror."
