Plot summary
Jackie, a recovering alcoholic, takes an apartment at Havenhurst, an old gothic building in New York City. Eleanor Mudgett runs the place, and her son Ezra handles maintenance. Jackie is warned that she has to stay sober while she lives there, or she will be evicted. Her friend Danielle is a previous Havenhurst tenant, and Jackie starts gathering evidence about her. Among the residents is Sarah, a young teenager who lives with her foster parents. Tammy, her foster mother, is a waitress who works nights, and Wayne, her foster father, is an abusive alcoholic. Jackie also has a friend, Tim Crawford, a detective.
