Plot summary
LAPD detective Mason Storm watches a mob gathering at a pier in 1983 and records a shadowy figure who promises the mob political support. He tells Lieutenant Kevin O'Malley and his partner Becker that he holds evidence of corruption, not knowing corrupt officers are monitoring him. Mason hides the videotape in his house. A hit squad of corrupt policemen breaks in, murders his wife Felicia and shoots him; his son Sonny, then young, escapes through a window. The squad stages the scene as a murder-suicide. At the hospital Mason is declared dead, then found alive and in a coma, and O'Malley has the medics keep his survival secret. Seven years pass before Mason wakes.
