Plot summary
A documentary crew follows Hard Core Logo, a punk band whose moment came and went, as it reunites for a tour of Western Canada. Joe Dick, the singer, is the one who gets the others back together and holds them there by force of will. The shows are billed as an anti-gun benefit, and Joe tells his former bandmates that Bucky Haight, his mentor and a Canadian punk legend, has been shot. Billy Tallent plays guitar, John Oxenberger plays bass, Pipefitter plays drums. The run opens in Vancouver, crosses the country on the Trans-Canada Highway as far as Winnipeg, and turns northwest toward Edmonton on the Yellowhead Highway.

- Quentin Tarantino saw Hard Core Logo at a film festival and liked it enough to buy its U.S. distribution rights through his Rolling Thunder label, and he even toyed with casting the film's lead, Hugh Dillon, in Jackie Brown.
- Bruce McDonald auditioned 200 actors for the lead role of Joe Dick but kept returning to musician Hugh Dillon, who had to be persuaded because he feared losing his band's fans and his credibility if the film turned out badly.
- Instead of a conventional soundtrack album, director Bruce McDonald had several notable Canadian bands record covers of the film's songs and packaged them as a tribute album to a real band; A Tribute to Hard Core Logo came out in 1996.
- The character Billy Tallent, played by Callum Keith Rennie, was the inspiration for the name of the Canadian band Billy Talent.
