Plot summary
Ned Roche is an outcast at Wood Hill College, an elite all-boys boarding school in Ireland where rugby is what matters and he is the only student who does not care for it. A new boy, Conor Masters, arrives as a star rugby player and is assigned to share Ned's room. The two are wary of each other at first, then find common ground in music. A new English teacher, Mr Sherry, is stern with the class but encouraging toward the two of them. Around the pair, the school encourages hostility toward gay students, from the other pupils and from the rugby coach, Pascal O'Keeffe.
