Plot summary

Homicide detective Gene Handsome works in Los Angeles, where mysteries come easier to him than his own life does. A neighbor's babysitter, Heather Dromgoole, is found dead outside the home of the actor Talbert Bacorn, her body parts arranged into the shape of a Star of David. Bacorn tells Handsome and his partner, Fleur Scozzari, that he was inside at the time, looking after a neighbor's dog and catching a television repeat of one of his old films. The neighbor, Nora, says Dromgoole was a good babysitter who took things.
