Plot summary
Chris Vale lost his mother and his face to two men his father had hired; his father then took his own life, and Chris, twelve years old, was sent to an asylum. He lived there for ten years, mocked by inmates and staff for the masks he wore, which matched the ones his mother's attackers had worn. At twenty-two, badly disfigured, he walks out on Halloween. His old house now belongs to David Baxter's family, and David is hosting a party there with his girlfriend Shannon and a group of schoolmates. Chris slips back inside, searching for anything that proves he was not to blame, and keeps out of sight of the guests and the police hunting him.
